Larry is now the support team - John and Sandy heading North to a wedding in Vancouver!
Things were looking up for awhile ( about 7 miles) and then Darrell runs into snow again.
Larry spends a day or two trying to figure out where Darrell is - and an other day getting him!
They finally re-group and head North once again to find some snow free sections.
This time all the way to the Oregon border!
"Our Father - Who art in heaven.... Please ...Please... make the snow go away... I ask nothing more...." |
Larry with his 'Lean, mean, green, pick-up machine' Darrell's new support for a week or so! |
And with Larry comes a much improved diet!! |
Heading north at Burney Falls - Looks like the snow is behind us? |
Looking good! ...not much snow ahead! |
Dang!! snow again!!.... spend 14 hours trying to find the trail! Finally had to give up - returned pretty much to the start! Spend next day or so trying to get a message to Larry to come back!! |
Moved North a little bit - to Ash Camp!.....Joined the troop above to 'Castle Crags' 'Mama Moab, Vagabond, Square Peg, Martin, SkyHawk & 'Utah' (the dog) |
Too much snow beyond Castle Crags - move north once again to the Oregon Border.. "We will not give up!..We will not surrender.. We will win this war!!" |
OK for a while now... typical Oregon trail through the Lava fields! 'Square Peg' ahead! |
John and sandy back now.... join Darrell and 'Square Peg' just before Mt Jefferson! Last stop again before another jump north....too much snow north of Jefferson! |
Now north of Jefferson... Sandy helps Darrell Scout out the way! Manage to find the route over the snowed in trail and send Darrell on his way again! |
Over the hump and looking north - Looks good! Olallie Lake ahead And very little snow! All Right!!! |
Coaches Corner! (J&S)

A wedding well worth coming north for!!
While all this was going on.....

Had their own triumphs!!
They both completed the one day 'Ride to Survive'.....

Good for you guys!!! (PS - this is a charity ride so feel free to contact them about that part!) |
On a final Note
Just to show how 'scre....d up' Vancouver is...
Explain this......
It's HOT in California and we don't see this....
It's COLD in Vancouver and we do!!
Right in Stanley Park...On the way to the wedding!
Go Figure!
Some Housekeeping stuff:
The easiest way to get to the most recent version of this blog is to 'google' 'darrell on the pct' each time
If you save to 'favorites' you'll probably keep bringing up that version only?
By the way we appreciate your comments .... Don't forget we only have each other for company!!
It appears that comments are difficult to post??
Try these tips...
1. Click on 'comments' or 'post comments' to bring up the comment 'box' if it's not visible
2. Type in a message
3. Choose a profile (try anonymous?)
4. click on the 'preview' button (this seems to be an important step!)- look for the word recognition box Type in the word shown and attempt to publish (try again if required)
5. It should tell you that you 'published successfully'
6.If you tried to publish but it didn't work e-mail us at jreinders123@shaw.ca and let us know (at least we'll get your comments!)
Good Luck.... Drop-off & Pick-up!
Hi there
ReplyDeleteYes, weather is colder than usual, but keep on snow plowing.
Linda would like hike also but her curling iron cannot hold enough gas for the trip and a finger nail may break after a month or so.
Rodney
About to bike in Oliver to be somewhere hot and dry.
ReplyDeleteDirk
Hi group!
ReplyDeleteSnow is crazy all over here too. The shelter on the Ears is still 1/2 under snow! Just did Chuwanten Peak from Monument 83 with Mike while the rest of the gang is on the Oliver cycle. Not much snow there, but the access to the Brothers is still impassable. Guess Larry must be heading home soon as summer camp starts next weekend.
Do you have a new agenda lined up? Approximate time to arrive at Rainy Pass? Keep up the good work Darrell, join ins and coaches!
